Mother, the most beautiful relationship most loved for every child in the world. To honor that mother, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of the month of May.

This India is celebrated in many countries including USA China. This day gives people the opportunity to thank their mother for giving birth to them, protecting them and taking care of them.

Greek and Rome-

The festivals celebrated in ancient Greece are seen in the ancient annual spring festival, which was dedicated to Mother Goddess. On this occasion, Greeks used to honor cronus wife rhea who was the mother of many goddesses, according to Greek mythology.

The ancient Romans used to celebrate the spring festival, which was called hilaria, this festival was dedicated to Mother Goddess Cybele and they were respected. This was the foundation for respecting mothers in Europe.

Mothering Sunday History-

The early Christians celebrated Mother Day by honoring virgin Mary (Mother of Christ) during the fourth Sunday of Lent’s  festival. In England all mothers were included, then it was called mothering Sunday. History of Mother Day is also associated with mothering day celebrated in England in the 1600s. Here Mothering Sunday was celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent on the annual Sunday to honor mothers. On this occasion, the Church used to pray to honor virgin Mary in the church, after which the children would be honored and thanked by giving gifts and flowers to their mothers. During this time those people who were living away from their homes were encouraged to go to their mother and give them respect and tribute. By 19th century Mothering Sunday ceased to celebrate and it was only after World War II that it started again.
